Mt. Hood Saints open season with win

Mt. Hood Girls team goes 1-2 at Clackamas CC holiday tourney


The Mt. Hood CC men’s basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with an 88-73 win over Walla Walla to start the Red Devil Classic hosted by Lower Columbia last weekend. by: FILE PHOTO - The Mt. Hood Saints opened their season with a win.

Mac Johnson led the Saints with a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Teammate Colby Mitchell added 17 points and blocked two shots, while Landon Rushton put in 14 points.

Mt. Hood CC dropped its final two games of the tournament, 77-65 to Yakima Valley on Saturday and 61-58 to Lower Columbia on Sunday.

Rushton scored 16 points against Yakima Valley, while Mitchell put up 25 points against Lower Columbia.

The Mt. Hood CC women’s team went 1-2 at the Clackamas CC holiday tournament, picking up its only 74-60 against the S.R. alumni squad. Whitney Warren went 10 for 12 (.833) at the free-throw line and led the Saints with 19 points, while Hannah Mocaby put in 14 points.

The Saints opened with an 86-56 loss to Pierce, getting nine points apiece from Warren and Kelsey Barnes.

Mt. Hood finished the tournament with a 67-54 loss to the George Fox JV with Kirsten Shockman leading the Saints with 13 points.
