Softball takes on Marshfield in opener

The Sandy softball team finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in the 5A RPI and will host games throughout the state playoffs, beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Marshfield (19-7). The Pirates finished third in the Midwestern League and got past Crescent Valley 2-1 in its play-in qualifier.

? Sandy’s baseball team ended its season Friday with a 3-0 play-in loss at Churchill.

Saints track team third in South

The Mt. Hood CC track and field team’s each finished third at the South Region championships last weekend at Lane CC in Eugene.

The women’s team finished with 136.5 points, led by Molly Scoles with wins in the 400-meter dash (1:00.00) and 400 hurdles (1:05.18), while Barlow High graduate Christa Collmer won the 800 (2:21.69) and was second in the 1,500. The Saints also got a win from McKenzie Warren in the hammer throw (152-feet-7-inches). She came up less than an inch short of picking up a win in the shot put and also settled for second place in the discus.

Lane CC won the women’s meet with 277 points.

Tyler Callahan scored Mt. Hood’s only victory on the boys side, claiming the javelin title with a heave of 219-4. Cody Quinton was second in the discus, Chris Newell was second in the steeplechase and Cody Bierly was second in the 800.

Mt. Hood CC scored 80.5 points, while Lane CC won the meet with a 335.5 total.

Sandy hosts summer tennis clinic

The Sandy High girls tennis program is sponsoring the Mt. Hood Tennis Academy this summer for players within the Oregon Trail District going into grades 5-8. An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at the Community Presbyterian Church. The academy meets each Monday and Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m. during the summer with a cost of $95.

Youth football sign-ups reach early deadline

Sign-ups for Sandy Youth Football are underway with the $50 early-signup deadline approaching on Friday, May 31. Cost is $240 and registration is available online at sandyyouthfootball.org. The league is for players in grades 3-8 within the Oregon Trail School District.
