Lockett named schools new Athletics Director

Sandy High has found its next athletics director, and it didn’t have to look very far. Wade Lockett, who has been a teacher and assistant coach at Sandy since 2005, has been promoted to replace Scott Maltman as head of the athletic department.

In his time at Sandy, Lockett has served as an assistant coach for the football and baseball teams. He teaches social studies and has been an advisor to Class of 2014, the National Honor Society and the speech and debate team.

Lockett hopes he can collaborate with parents, teachers and students to continue to guide and inspire Sandy’s youth in his new capacity as athletic director.

“I firmly believe that leadership, first and foremost, is founded on a genuine love and belief in what we are doing and whom we are serving,” Lockett said. “We are all in this effort to educate our kids together.”

Lockett will officially take the reins of his new post on August 1.
