Eighth graders rally past Wildcats in the second half

Saturday, Oct. 19

Varsity (8th grade)

SANDY 22, WILSONVILLE 17 — Sandy overcame an 11-0 halftime deficit to beat Wilsonville when QB Tyler King tossed a short pass to Brody Diaz de Leon on 2nd-and-31. He took the 80 yards for the winning touchdown with about a minute to play. Bryce Carmony booted the extra point, forcing Wilsonville to score a quick touchdown.

The Wildcats didn’t get much of a chance.

Sandy’s Maysen Graham picked off a pass with 0:52 on the clock to seal the win.

The Pioneers trailed 11-0 at the intermission, keeping it close when Diaz de Leon made a touchdown-saving tackle at the 6-yard line to stop a fourth-down play.

Sandy got on the scoreboard with a Cameron Conger touchdown run in the third quarter, while Wilsonville suffered a series a personal-foul penalties and saw their coach ejected from the game.

Sandy took its first lead 14-11 on a TD run by Levi Rotzien early in the fourth quarter.

Grades 5-6

SANDY BLACK 37, COLTON 17 — Colby Carson ran for three TDs and broke off a big-gain of 55 yards in the first half, while Orion Shaw kicked three extra points and picked off a pass. Also scoring for the Pioneers were Gavin Schippers and Ford McKinnis.

Sandy broke the game open with three TDs in the third quarter turning a six-point halftime lead into a commanding 37-8 advantage. The Pioneers continue to lead their division with a 6-0-1 record.

SANDY RED 40, CLACKAMAS WHITE 19 — Sandy overcame a 13-7 halftime deficit, moving ahead early in the second half after Colby Worthylake found the end zone and Brady Shirrell caught the conversion pass.

The Pioneers got the ball back quickly when Josh Paugh forced a fumble that was recovered by Reilly Tumbaga. Sandy QB Chet Chamberlain broke off three touchdown runs, while Zach Miller added another. Jake Miller finished with two quarterback sacks.

Saturday, Oct. 12

JV (7th grade)

ALOHA 26, SANDY 14 — The Pioneers took an 8-6 lead into halftime after Cody Redmond caught a short touchdown pass, set up by a pair of long runs by Gabe Burton and Colton Gorski. Sandy maintained a 14-12 lead midway through the third quarter on a Tysen Carmony touchdown run, but Aloha scored the last two TDs to earn the win.
