Grand slam dooms the GreyWolves
WEST COAST LEAGUE BASEBALL
Just when the Gresham GreyWolves pulled close, the Bend Elks shoved them away to take a 13-8 win Sunday night at Oslund Field.
The GreyWolves climbed back into the game by posting three runs in the sixth inning.
But Bend turned away the challenge in its next at-bats, stringing together three straight singles to start the seventh inning. The Elks sent Bryce Rogan in to pinch-hit and he came through with a shot to center field that stayed above the glove of a leaping Simpson at the fence for a grand slam that broke the game open 13-5.
The teams finish their series at 6:35 p.m. tonight at Oslund Field.
Bend (25-25) has a batch of off days before hosting Cowlitz on Friday to start a pivotal three-game set with playoff implications.
Gresham (19-31) has been eliminated from playoff contention heading into its final series of the summer starting Wednesday at Oslund Field against Port Angeles.
