GRESHAM — In their final game before taking on the daunting task of facing Oak Hill Academy (Virginia) in the first round of the Les Schwab Invitational on Dec. 27, Barlow proved that they are indeed the team to beat on the Eastside.

Jesse White poured in 21 points and Dominic Jacoby added 17 as Barlow outscored Sandy by 18 in the second half in route to a 79-51 win on Saturday night.

"I think our depth and our defensive pressure kind of wore (Sandy) down a little bit," Barlow head coach Tom Johnson said. "We were able to go on some runs because we forced a lot of turnovers. I was pleased with how well we defended throughout."

Sandy started the game on an 8-0 run thanks to three-pointers by Colton Gorski and Kaleb Hubbard. But the Bruins responded with a 6-0 run after White nailed his first two triples of the night.

After the consecutive jumpers by White, Sandy head coach Jason Maki decided to have his guys face-guard White and try to deny him the ball.

"I tried to explain in practice that Jesse can shoot from anywhere," Maki said. "We wanted to try and slow him down a little bit."

The game was tied at 14 late in the first quarter, but a game-changing play at the end of the period ending up turning the tide in favor of the Bruins.

With one second on the clock, Jaren Hunter threw the ball to Jacoby near mid-court. Jacoby heaved up a one-handed prayer right before the buzzed sounded and the ball found miraculously found it's way into the hoop.

"It definitely gave us a spark," Jacoby said. "I was ready for the ball and Jaren just gave me a perfect pass."
