Next: Three very different, but each compelling, games –Tuesday at PGE Park against AC Milan Primavera, an elite under-21 team; June 21 at home against league rival Montreal, and June 26 at Seattle in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. All game times are 7 p.m.

• AC Milan “will be a great test for us,” Portland coach Gavin Wilkinson says. “Those players are probably easily capable of playing MLS, if not higher. They’re accomplished individuals, even at that age.” The Timbers (4-2-2) will use their best players. “I’ll have to, because Milan’s capable of causing some damage if we’re not careful,” Wilkinson says.

• Portland won 1-0 at Montreal last week on Andrew Gregor’s penalty kick. So the Impact “are going to have a lot of animosity and the belief that they should have won,” Wilkinson says. In the league race, Wilkinson says Montreal and Vancouver “are at a different level at the moment.”

• The Timbers are 4-0-2 at PGE Park this season. “Our goal is to go unbeaten at home this year –exhibition games and everything,” Wilkinson says. “You’ve got to have ambitions.”
