BEAVER NOTES: Kuli still committed, OSU lands more verbals

• Last week, OSU coach Mike Riley received a phone call from recruit Simi Kuli, reaffirming his commitment to Oregon State.

The 6-2, 270-pound Kuli, rated by rivals.com as the nation’s No. 1 JC recruit last year out of El Camino in Torrance, Calif., is working toward completing his academic requirements this fall.

“It was a good talk,” Riley says. “He said he is taking care of his classwork, is working out every day and is coming (to Oregon State) in January.”

• Verbals from Mana Rosa, a 6-3, 250-pound defensive end from Kamehameha, Hawaii, and Zeke Sanders, a 6-2, 190-pound safety from Santa Cruz, Calif., have Oregon State’s commitment list at 11 players.

Adding grayshirt tailback Jovan Stevenson from Tucson, Ariz., and transfer quarterback Pete Lalich from Virginia, the Beavers have 13 scholarships accounted for. That leaves about seven, and no more than nine rides, left to give.

• Senior offensive tackle Tavita Thompson, who has completed a full-year NCAA suspension for use of a banned substance, will play Saturday but is unlikely to start, Riley says.
