Saturday's "Dash for Cash" for Portland Winterhawk fans also will be a dash for goals night for the local junior hockey team.
The Winterhawks were shut out Wednesday for the second straight game, losing 4-0 to the British Columbia Division-leading Vancouver Giants at the Rose Garden.
Portland hasn't scored a non-empty net goal since the second period three games ago – after an otherwise impressive start to the Western Hockey League season.
The Hawks (13-7-0-0) will play host to the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Rose Garden in the club's annual Dash for Cash game.
Portland, which lost 2-0 at home to Spokane on Sunday, trails first-place Tri-City (14-3-0-0) by two points in the U.S. Division.
Vancouver (12-4-1-2) took the lead with 4:06 remaining in the first period Wednesday. Craig Cunningham's rebound shot gave the Giants the edge they needed.
With 4:18 left in the second period, Milan Kytnar made it 2-0.
The Giants added goals by Dunningham at 13:25 of the third period on a power play and at 16:08 by Kevin Connauton.
Kurtis Mucha took the loss for Portland. He made 36 saves.

These young hockey players skated a great game...............for 20 minutes, then fell asleep. But also, with some help from the officiating. The 3 blind mice with one behind the net was way out of position. The puck stopped securely in Muchas glove, but with no whistle being blown. Then a Vancouver stick slapped the puck out of the glove and between Muchas legs. Then bad call number 2, a vancouver direct elbow hit to Muchas face knocked him "OUT". The player was assessed only a 2 minute interference penalty. Then with the wind out of the Hawks sails vancouver made it 2-0 on a short handed goal. Just a lousy night of officiating. These Hawks will RISE this season. Just watch.
