Mother, boyfriend held in death of 4-year-old Tigard boy

Jessica Dutro-BoggesA Tigard couple faces murder and manslaughter charges after a 4-year-old boy died last week from internal injuries police say were the result of abuse.

Brian Canady, 23, was arrested last week and charged with three counts of murder, first-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment. The child's mother, Jessica Dutro-Boggess, 23, also was arrested and charged with first-degree manslaughter and first-degree criminal mistreatment.

Canady and Dutro-Boggess were taken into custody Aug. 14 after an investigation into the child’s death. They are being held in the Washington County Jail.

Brian CanadyTigard police were called Aug. 14 to the Good Neighbor Center, 11130 S.W. Greenburg Road, where the child’s family was living. The boy and three other siblings had been living in the shelter with their mother and Canady for the past three weeks.

Medical personnel called to the center were suspicious of the child’s life-threatening injuries. The boy died several days later from what the state medical examiner’s office said was complications resulting from blunt force abdominal trauma.

An investigation led by Tigard detectives revealed a history of physical abuse by the child’s mother and her boyfriend.

The victims’ siblings were placed in the care of the Oregon Department of Human Services.
