Drug take back event set Saturday

Have left over prescription medication? The Tigard Police Department is holding a “pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day” on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Tigard City Hall.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, police will have a drop off center in the parking lot of Tigard City Hall, 13125 S.W. Hall Blvd.

Participation helps to reduce unwanted contaminants being released into the water and ground that can occur from improperly disposing of pharmaceutical drugs, said Tigard Police spokesman Jim Wolf, and reduces the likelihood that the medication could fall into the wrong hands.

Tigard Police are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration for the event.

What types of medication can be dropped off? Any expired, unwanted, or unneeded prescription medication or over-the counter medicines either for yourself, your pets or deceased family members.

The drug drop off center cannot accept needles, syringes, medical waste, illegal drugs such as marijuana or methamphetamines, lotions, creams, or thermometers.

Medications from nursing homes, doctors’ offices or any type of medical facility will not be accepted.
