Explosive blaze rips through Tualatin metal shop

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews are investigating a powerful fire that blew out the back of a metal shop in Tualatin last week.

Firefighters were called to Signature Landscape Care at 23275 S.W. 82nd Ave., in Tualatin at 5:25 a.m. on Nov. 1.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames erupting from a metal shop used to store landscaping vehicles, trailers and other lawn care equipment. The fire caused several explosions inside the building, and at one point blew out the back side of the metal building.

Firefighters were able to control the fire in about a half-hour. Fire investigators said the blaze was most likely started in one of the eight vehicles parked in the shop and spread to two other nearby vehicles. Firefighters were able to stop the flames from consuming the other equipment and vehicles inside the shed.

The fire’s intense heat was likely because of lawn and garden chemicals kept in the shed, fire officials said.
