Man faces charges for assaulting a sleeping resident

Tualatin Police have arrested a man accused of robbing and assaulting another man.

Police say Kristopher Casey Basta, 38, of Tualatin, was arrested on Friday near the 8700 block of Tualatin-Sherwood Road at about 8:45 p.m., after a witness saw media reports asking the public to look for Basta.

Basta allegedly broke into an apartment at about 2 a.m. in the 7800 block of Sagert Street and assaulted a sleeping man he knew, according to Tualatin Police spokeswoman Jennifer Massey.

Police asked the public to keep an eye out for Basta after he refused to turn himself in.

Basta reportedly offered to turn himself in several times since the incident, Massey said, but did not follow through with his offer after nearly two weeks and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Basta was indicted on charges of first-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault, Massey said.

He was lodged in the Washington County Jail.
