Man arrested for car thefts

Travis KitchenA Hillsboro man was arrested last week after authorities say he stole four cars in four days across the county, in and around Tigard.

Washington County sheriff’s deputies arrested Travis Kitchen, 21, who allegedly targeted vehicles with keys left in them on Saturday.

A sheriff’s deputy located a stolen vehicle on Southwest Alderwood Drive near 185th Avenue in Aloha when he got word of a silver Ford Fusion that was stolen from Tigard.

The deputy reportedly saw Kitchen driving a silver Fusion through the area and pursued him.

The officer stopped Kitchen and arrested him at 185th Avenue and Blanton Street.

Kitchen is accused of targeting cars in Hillsboro, Tigard and unincorporated areas of the county.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Bob Ray said that in two of the cases, the cars were left idling in driveways to warm up on cold mornings.

All four cars have since been returned to their owners.

Ray warned citizens about not leaving their keys or any other valuables unattended in their vehicles.

Washington County had also issued a warrant for Kitchen’s arrest after he left the Washington County Community Correction Center last week before he could be sentenced for an unrelated crime.

Kitchen is being held on four counts of first-degree theft, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Kitchen was lodged at the Washington County Jail and is being held on $25,000 bail.
