Police say burglary connected to Internet scam

Witnesses report a trailer parked Friday at the victim's home

Sherwood Police believe the recent burglary of a Sherwood home may be tied to an Internet scam.

Police responded to a call on Friday from a resident in the 18200 block of Southwest Tibrel Lane on a report of a burglary of laptop computers, televisions, power tools, sports equipment and electronics.

Police discovered the home, which is off Southwest Old Highway 99W, had a smashed window next to a front door. The burglar caused the damage to gain entry into the house when the homeoweners were away.

The stolen items were valued at an estimated $10,000.

Officers discovered the homeowner had recently begun working for a company that went by the name LWA Trade. The homeowner’s job was to receive packages at his residence and then resend them to an address in Russia.

Sherwood police began an investigation in December 2012 regarding this Internet scam, when the resident learned the items he was receiving were being purchased from stolen credit cards and then shipped to his home for distribution.

The resident discontinued any further shipping or acceptance of packages. However, on Jan. 21, a man contacted a resident at the location inquiring about the products that should have been delivered to the home. When he was told they were not accepting products and the police were involved, the man became upset, telling the homeowner, "You’re going to pay," before leaving.

The man was described as being in his 20s, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-11, weighing between 150 to 170 pounds. He wore a dark hooded sweatshirt with a baseball cap pulled low over his eyes. There was no vehicle information associated with the subject.

After Friday's burglary, a canvass of the neighborhood revealed that a trailer with wood side panels was seen in the driveway of the residence between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., but nobody was seen coming or going from the residence.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen an individual or individuals with the described trailer in the area of Southwest Timbrel Lane and Southwest Old Highway 99W between 3 and 10 p.m. on Friday to call 503-625-5523.
