Free series focus on careers

A new speaker series featuring professionals from a variety of industries aims to make choosing a college and career less painful for students — and their families.

Concerned by rising tuition costs and record levels of student debt, attorney Gregg Johnson was inspired to launch the Giving Back 2013 series. He hopes to help students focus more on the practical application of their majors — and he believes the first step is to start a conversation about the daily realities of specific professions.

Johnson points out that more than half of all college students switch majors at least once, which can prove extremely expensive.

The first presentation will feature Dr. Patricia Pancoast and Johnson, and is entitled “Do You Really Want to Become a Doctor or Lawyer.” The talk will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Tualatin Public Library. Both students and parents are encouraged to attend. Attendance is free, but pre-registration is required by email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
