Police: Man lay in front of oncoming WES train

by: JAIME VALDEZ - Police investiagte the scene of an apparent suicide involving a TriMet WES Commuter Rail below the 99W overpass in Tigard.A 20-year-old man struck and killed Thursday morning by a Westside Express commuter train in Tigard apparently lay on the tracks in front of the train.

Tigard police said the incident, which happened at about 5:40 a.m., appeared to be a suicide.

Police said the northbound commuter train left the Tigard Transit Center only moments before the accident. The incident occurred about two blocks from the transit center in the right of way under the 99W bridge.

The name of the victim and other details about the accident were not immediately available.

The WES line from Beaverton to Wilsonville was shut down and the stations were being served by shuttle buses during the morning commute.

TriMet officials said that WES trains would resume service Thursday afternoon. Shuttle buses will serve all WES stations for the remainder of the morning commute.
