'Physics Extravaganza' set for Monday

The ninth annual Tigard-Tualatin Physics Extravaganta is set to kick things up a notch next week, with more than a dozen scientific demonstrations on display at Tigard High School.

On Monday, May 20, students from Tigard and Tualatin high schools will take to the school's commons with a few experiments demonstrating the power of science in action.

The free event is open to the public and will showcase a variety of fun real-world experiments, said Rick Holmes, a Tigard High School physics teacher who started the event in 2005.

There is something for everyone at the event, Holmes said, whether you are a grandparent or an elementary school student.

In the past, students have enveloped people in gigantic bubbles, blown fire and spun plates.

The event will culiminate with the world premier of "Physics: The Musical," Holmes said.

Physics Extravaganza begins at 6:30 p.m. at Tigard High School, 9000 S.W. Durham Road.
