Online school to hold meeting Thursday

Wanting something different than the traditional school model?

The Tigard-Tualatin Online Academy is holding an open house Thursday, May 23, at 6 p.m.

The online school offers a full-year program, as well as virtual summer school.

Unlike other online schools, students have access to a computer lab and teachers at TTOA’s headquarters in Tualatin.

Students work at their own pace, taking courses online and completing assignments independently either at home or at the center.

Laptops are available to students taking four classes or more.

Along with virtual coursework, students in the academy also have access to elective courses such as art or music, as well as athletics through the school district.

The academy's summer school is open to middle and high school students starting June 17.

Students can earn math, science and social studies credits, or retake high school credits in English, math, science, social studies or health, said district spokeswoman Susan Stark Haydon.

The center in Tualatin will be open and teachers available every Wednesday between noon and 6 p.m. during the summer session.

Thursday’s meeting is open to prospective students and their families to share information about the program, give a tour of the facility and answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.

The academy is located at 19322 S.W. Mohave Court in Tualatin.
