Tigard Mayor John L. Cook has been holding monthly coffee sessions with residents since taking office earlier this year. The Fireside Chats are moving to a new location and time this week.Tigard Mayor John L. Cook has moved his monthly Fireside Chats to downtown Tigard.

The chats, informal get-togethers where Tigard residents are invited to sit down with the mayor and discuss local issues, have been held at Beveland Street Bistro and Café on Southwest 72nd Avenue since they began in February, but the city has moved the venue to Symposium Coffee on Main Street.

Cook said he would move the coffees around town to make them easier for people to get to.

The low-key events are meant as an easy, stress-free way for residents to engage with local government.

Talking over a cup of coffee is an easy way for the city to get public feedback on issues, Cook said, and let folks know about things going on around town.

The next talk is set for Thursday at Symposium Coffee, 12345 S.W. Main St., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., inside the Tigard Area Chamber of Commerce building.
