Tigard Police found the pig after it wandered into a backyard Wednesday morning, and police are hoping to track down its owners.

According to Jim Wolf, a spokesman with the Tigard Police Department, the pig wandered into a backyard on Southwest Elrose Court off of Southwest McDonald Street.

Wolf said one of the officers was able to coax the animal with apples, capture the creature and transport it to the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter in Hillsboro.

Debbie Wood, the head of animal services for Washington County, said she hopes to find the pig’s owner as quickly as possible.

The pig wandered into a yard on Southwest Elrose Court in Tigard, Wednesday. “The shelter really isn’t designed for pigs,” Wood said. “We are hoping his family comes for him soon.”

According to Wood, the pig was friendly and well-cared for. Wood said the animal was likely a family pet.

“Since a pig owner may not think to look at the animal shelter, we hope that word will get out about the pig being here,” she said.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first pig to make its way to the shelter this year.

A small pig was found in Beaverton in March, after it escaped from a luau.

“We thought it was a one-of-a-kind event. I guess it was a two-of-a-kind event,” Wood said. “Who could have guessed?”

The pig’s owners are asked to call 503-846-7039 or come by the shelter, which is located at 1901 S.E. 24th Ave. in Hillsboro.

“Our first goal is to reunite this pig with his people,” she said. “If no one claims the pig, then we would look for a placement for him.”
