The Tigard Police Department has a few things to teach local landlords.

As part of the Westside Crime Prevention Coalition — a partnership of five law enforcement agencies in Washington County — the department is offering its monthly landlord forum during the next nine months.

The free 90-minute forums began Wednesday and cover an array of topics, including fire safety, abandoned and stray animals, conflict resolution and code enforcement.

Police said the training gives residential rental property owners and managers an opportunity to learn how they might better recognize and address criminal activity on their property.

The free forums also give insight into state law regarding landlords and tenants.

Landlords will learn about screening methods, ways to work with law enforcement when issues arise and evictions.

Local law enforcement agencies and other landlord specialists will be on hand to answer questions.

The forums are held at 6:30 p.m., on the second Wednesday of each month at Portland Community College’s Willow Creek campus in Hillsboro.

PCC Willow Creek is located at 241 S.W. Edgeway Drive.
