High speed chase ends in King City

JohnsonA high speed chase that peaked 100 miles-per-hour ended Friday evening in King City, after the driver conned his way into a woman’s house.

According to Hillsboro Police, Brandon Johnson, 27, was arrested on Friday, Jan. 31 after leading police on a chase from Newberg that ended with deputies using a spike strip to stop the car.

Lt. Mike Rouches, Hillsboro Police spokesman said that detectives with the city’s street crimes unit were investigating Johnson on drug and vice charges when they spotted him in Newberg.

The detectives were in undercover cars and asked Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, Sherwood and Tigard Police to initiate a traffic stop as Johnson reportedly drove up Highway 99W.

A police chase ensued, Rouches said, with Johnson allegedly driving at a very high rate of speed from Newberg into Tigard and King City.

Sherwood, Newberg and Tigard Police responded to the chase, as well as Washington County Sheriff’s deputies and Hillsboro Police, Rouches said.

Deputies with Washington County Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips on Pacific Highway in King City, in order to stop the vehicle.

The car’s tire exploded, Rouches said, and Johnson reportedly fled from the vehicle and ran into a nearby neighborhood. He allegedly conned his way into a home in the 15900 block of Royalty Parkway by asking to use a woman's telephone.

“It got kinda hairy and crazy for awhile,” Rouches said.

The woman reportedly let Johnson in, but grew suspicious of him and called a neighbor while he was in the bathroom.

Watching as police approached the home with guns drawn, the neighbor told the woman to get out of the house.

The woman exited the home and police arrested Johnson without incident.

Johnson faces several charges, including three counts of attempting to elude a police officer, two counts of reckless driving, two counts of reckless endangering, as well as distribution of heroin, possession of methamphetamine and heroin, assault, interfering with a peace officer and parole violations.
