Sherwood police respond to bomb threat at SHS

Threat was written inside a bathroom stall

by: GAZETTE FILE PHOTO - Sherwood police are checking out a possible bomb threat based on graffiti they found inside a women's bathroom stall at Sherwood High School Wednesday evening.Threatening graffiti related to a bomb threat at Sherwood High School led to a heightened presence of police at the school on June 5 and 6.

Police responded to the school after administrators discovered the graffiti on a stall in a girls' bathroom on June 4.

As a result, police increased their presence on campus, looking for anything suspicious on June 5 and 6, said Capt. Ty Hanlon, a spokesman for the Sherwood Police Department. They didn't develop any leads from the graffiti, said Hanlon.

After the discovery of the graffiti, high school administrators passed on the information to police.

"Safety is our top priority and we are taking the necessary precautions to keep students and staff safe," the Sherwood School District posted in a note to key communicators in the district.

High School parents were notified of the incident through the district's automated calling system and classes were held the following day.

However, during a final school-wide assembly on June 6, bags, backpacks and purses were banned as a precaution. Also, parents and spectators were discouraged from bringing those items to that same evening's graduation at Aaron J. Conteras Field where all items were subject to a search, according to school officials.

Anyone with any information pertinent to this investigation is asked to call the Sherwood Police Department at 503-629-0111.
