New principals named at Metzger, Durham elementary schools

The Tigard-Tualatin School District will welcome two new principals in July.

Lawrence Gillespie, Jr., has been named the new principal of Metzger Elementary School, and Rhett Bordeau will take the helm at Durham Elementary School.

Gillespie is currently the assistant principal at Whitford Middle School in the Beaverton School District and previously served as student supervisor at Vose Elementary School.

Gillespie has coordinated the schools’ respose to intervention programs for struggling students and worked in schools that have Spanish dual-language programs. Metzger launched the district’s first dual-language program two years ago.

“Besides experience, Lawrence brings solid leadership skills to his new position,” the district said in an announcement, describing Gillespie as “a positive, thoughtful and solution-oriented leader who builds support, eliminates obstacles and solves problems.”

Gillespie has also worked as a school counselor at Cedar Park Middle School and became part of the Beaverton School District’s “Nike Aspiring Administrator Program” in 2007.

Gillespie replaces Kraig Sproles, who left the district this month after he was named principal at Liberty Elementary School in the Greater Albany School District.

Boudreau, who serves as assistant principal at Mountain View Middle School, will assume his new role at Durham on July 1.

Boudreau was assistant principal at Findley Elementary School from 2009 to 2011 and also previously served as assistant principal at Jacob Wismer Elementary School and student supervisor at Rock Creek Elementary School.

Like Gillespie, Boudreau worked with struggling students, as well as led English language learner and talented and gifted programs. He led student reading groups and served as an elementary math facilitator. Boudreau is “creative, energetic and a true educator," according to the district, and is considered a thoughtful decision-maker who works to ensure all voices are heard.

Boudreau takes over for Joyce Woods, who was named the district’s new student services director.
