The Tigard Rotary Club has named Jan Richardson its Rotarian of the Year.

Richardson received the honor at the Rotary’s awards banquet on June 26.

The award is given to Rotary members for outstanding service.

Richardson has been actively involved in the Tigard community since 1994. She served as a member of the Tigard Area Chamber of Commerce, leader of the Women’s Business Forum and joined one of the first study groups looking at improvements to downtown Tigard.

Richardson is in charge of membership at the club, said incoming president Steve Schmitt, but she goes beyond her normal duties.

“She has also taken it upon herself to stay in touch with members who are ill or haven’t attended meetings for a while,” he said. “She also sends out her own meeting and duty roster reminders each week. She’s always the one to step in if someone is in need or if a club project needs a champion.”

Richardson joined the Rotary in 2004 and has been club services director for several years. She wears many other hats as well, including membership chair and chair of the “We Care Committee.” She has also taken on the job of keeping the club organized through her weekly reminder emails.

Richardson isn’t the only one awarded for their good works. Ruth and Bob Davidson were named the Rotarian Couple of the Year.
