Tigard auto shop suffers two-alarm fire
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue says its crews have brought a commercial fire under control at H&H Auto & Transmission Center in Tigard.
The fire was reported to TVF&R on Thursday morning, Aug. 31, with crews dispatched at 10:49 a.m. and arriving at 10:52 a.m., according to a lieutenant with the agency.
"It ended up going to a second alarm, which means additional resources were called to the scene to assist," said Lt. Ryan Stenhouse.
TVF&R said the fire was declared to be under control several minutes before noon, although as of early Thursday afternoon, crews remained at the scene "mopping up," along with fire investigators who will work to determine what caused the fire and the monetary value of the losses it caused.
It is not yet clear how the fire started at the one-story business at 11225 S.W. Greenburg Road.
Stenhouse said the business owner and an employee were inside the building at the time the fire started.
"They were able to safely evacuate without injury," Stenhouse said.
Firefighters were initially involved in a "defensive" operation, as the fire was extensive at the time they arrived on the scene, according to Stenhouse.
In a news release, TVF&R reported encountering other hazards, as the shop was reportedly "full of combustible materials and had a couple cars parked inside that made firefighting conditions challenging," according to the agency.
No other buildings were immediately threatened, and no injuries were reported, TVF&R said.
Roads were closed at the scene of the fire, near the intersection of Greenburg Road and Tiedeman Avenue.
Portland Fire & Rescue, the Lake Oswego Fire Department, the Tigard Police Department and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office assisted TVF&R crews at the incident.
