Applications for the audit and budget committees are due Nov. 2, or Nov. 13 for three other boards.

Numerous positions on several of the City of Tigard's volunteer boards and committees are open, and the city is seeking applicants to fill them.

Among the boards with openings are the audit and budget committees and the Tigard Planning Commission.

The budget committee works with and advises the Tigard City Council on setting an annual budget, proposing a "spending blueprint" every spring and meeting several times before the draft budget is submitted to the City Council for approval.

The audit committee works as the liaison between an auditing firm contracted to assess the city's finances and financial reporting and the city itself. It typically meets in October and November, receiving and discussing results from the auditors.

The planning commission handles some land use decisions in Tigard and advises the council on land use and development issues. It meets regularly throughout the year and works closely with community development staff at City Hall.

Applications for would-be planning commissioners and members of the Town Center Advisory Committee, which helps provide citizen oversight of Tigard's urban renewal districts, and the Tigard Transportation Advisory Committee, which consults the council on transportation and transit-related issues, are due by 6 p.m. Nov. 13.

However, for the two positions open on both the audit and budget committees, applications must be turned in by 6 p.m. Nov. 2.

Applications are available in the lobby of Tigard City Hall, 13125 S.W. Hall Blvd., as well as on the city's website.
