Robber asks for ride, snatches purse from woman

Case marks second attack at Washington Square mall

two weeks after a woman was attacked in the same parking lot. Tigard Police are looking for a man who jumped into a woman’s car at Washington Square mall and asked for a ride, then attempted to steal her purse.

According to Tigard Police spokesman Jim Wolf, a 65-year-old Portland woman was returning to her car after shopping at Washington Square mall at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 14.

The woman was parked in the west parking lot, near the Nordstrom department store, Wolf said.

The woman was reportedly talking on her cellphone as she got into the car, when a man reportedly opened her passenger-side door, got into the car and introduced himself.

“Hello,” the suspect said. “My name is Parker, will you give me a ride?”

Both the man and woman jumped out of the car, police said. The man grabbed the woman’s purse, and the two struggled for a moment before the woman was able to pull it from his grasp. The suspect ran off, and the woman called police.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s to mid-30s. Police said he was about 6-foot-tall, slender and very well dressed in a black jacket and khaki pants.

According to Wolf, video surveillance taken from the area shows the man driving a dark late 1990s Subaru Forester.

The robbery comes just two weeks after a woman was attacked in the same parking lot as she was walking home. In that case, the victim was hit over the head with a blunt object. The thief ran off with her purse.

The suspect in that case also remains on the loose.
