Sen. Ginny Burdick, who represents the Tigard area and a large chunk of Southwest Portland, is a leader in the Oregon Senate who has steadily gained clout and knowledge during her 16 years in office.

In the Nov. 6 election, Burdick is challenged by Republican Suzanne Gallagher, an interior designer who, like most candidates this year, is making jobs and the economy the centerpiece of her campaign.

We agree with those priorities, but also believe that Burdick is in the best position to champion economic development for her district and for the state as a whole. Burdick’s political views are more in line with the entirety of her district, and there’s no compelling reason to consider replacing her in the Senate. Voters in Senate District 18 should retain Democrat Ginny Burdick as their advocate in Salem.
