Soapbox: Barry Albertson is a champion for students

Jeff Jansen is a 2008 Tualatin High School graduate.

My name is Jeff Jansen, and I am currently a second-year pharmacy student at the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy. Prior to pharmacy school and completing my undergrad at Oregon State, I spent my entire educational career in the Tigard-Tualatin School District.

I graduated from Tualatin High School in 2008, attended Twalty Middle School, as well as both Mary Woodward and Deer Creek elementary schools. The reason I am writing today is to explain why Dr. Barry Albertson should receive your vote for the TTSD School Board Position 1.

I have personally known Dr. Albertson for the large majority of my life, being extremely close, lifelong friends with his son Matt. Dr. Albertson has served as a major role model and resource to not only me, but to many students who reach out for his help.

He is one of the most sincere and kind people I know and always goes out of his way to help others. Just as importantly, Dr. Albertson’s advocation to help others promote themselves and their education does not stop upon leaving the school district, as many alumni of the Tigard-Tualatin School District can attest to. Essentially, Dr. Albertson is one of the best people I have ever met, and I consider it an honor to call him a friend.

How does my personal experience relate to you and your children? Dr. Albertson has served on the School Board for the previous three terms (12 years). This is either all of, or the majority of, many children’s educational career in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. It is absolutely amazing how much Dr. Albertson cares about the educational experience of the students in the district, and he has shown this for all 12 years he has served through his actions.

Dr. Albertson advocates for smaller class sizes, continuation of extracurricular activities (both sports and the arts), and providing the best education possible for your children. An example of Dr. Albertson’s commitment is the sheer number of school-sponsored events that he, as a School Board member, attends. These events include assemblies, sporting games, plays/musicals, concerts and many others. I can honestly say without any doubt that during my time at Tualatin High School, Dr. Albertson attended more school-sponsored events than I have, and I attended my fair share.

In conclusion, from my personal experience growing up with Barry, as well as witnessing his professional dedication and involvement in promoting the educational experience of the students in the Tigard-Tualatin School District, there is no other man who I would even consider for the School Board Position 1.
