Big Truck Day, an event unlike any other offered by the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District, will be back for its 14th year on Saturday at the Conestoga Recreation & Aquatic Center.

More than 75 trucks and utility vehicles in a variety of shapes and sizes will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free. The center is at 9985 S.W. 125th Ave. in South Beaverton.

"This event brings people up close with trucks all of us see every day on the road," said Big Truck Day organizer Terri Cannon of the park district. "The best part is the smiles of the little kids as they sit in those huge trucks and honk the horns."

Newly featured this year is a Kool Pak 53-foot tractor/trailer refrigeration truck. Most other attractions are favorites from previous years, including a KPTV Fox 12 satellite news gathering truck, a Terex crane and knuckle boom, a 48-foot Conway freight truck, assorted Oregon Department of Transportation vehicles, an American Red Cross blood mobile, TriMet and Beaverton School District buses, and a Franz Bakery truck.

Other highlights include a video game truck, monster trucks, fire truck, ambulance, Life Flight helicopter, Portland General Electric bucket truck, Al Kader Shriners locomotive and calliope, a Lenco BearCat armored truck and six Silver limousines.

Trucks aren't the day's only star attraction. Conestoga will welcome six local mascots: Chuck E. Cheese, Geoffrey (Toys "R" Us), Clifford the Big Red Dog (Scholastic Books), Sweet Treat (Sweet Tomatoes), the Red Robin (Red Robin restaurants) and Sassy Suds (Great Clips).

After a one-year hiatus due to construction at Conestoga, THPRD's sand play zone will be back. Children are encouraged to use their imagination as they play with toy shovels, trucks and cars under the covered sand pit.

There will also be a hoop shoot, raffles, prizes, gifts, Scholastic Book Fair and a giant inflatable toy truck that kids can bounce on. THPRD's Rec Mobile will be on hand with face painting, games and entertainment. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
