Check out hundreds of deals during three-day event

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - These are just a few of the literary treasure up for grabs during the New Friends of the Beaverton City Library book sale Nov. 21-23.Hundreds of gently used books, CDs and DVDs in more than 30 categories will be for sale this week at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 S.W. Fifth St.

A three-day sale will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., when all books will be half off.

The New Friends of the Beaverton City Library is hosting the sale that includes fiction categories such as vintage, mysteries, classics, popular fiction, science fiction, graphic novels, comics and more. Children’s books will include board books through young adult. Collector items such as a copy of The New York Times “Obama Inauguration 2008” newspaper; Kennedy memorabilia; an aerial photograph of Cologne July 1945; 15-volume Charles Dicken’s set published in the early 1900s; journals and more are on display and for sale. In addition, an eight-volume LexisNexisCorporate Affiliation 2011 is on sale for $100 or best offer.

Nonfiction categories will include biographies, gardening, cooking, arts and crafts, home improvement, travel, geography, health and fitness, sports, history, Pacific Northwest and the West, world religions, foreign language, business, antiques, music, science, ethnic and gender issues.

“This is the first time the NFBCL have had a three-day sale — and one this large,” said Sharon Van Buren, sale coordinator. “More than 100 boxes are packed up and ready for the sale. All proceeds will benefit the Beaverton City Library and its Scholls Ferry Branch with funds for items needed within the library and its branch.”

Beaverton residents who love books and libraries are invited to join the New Friends who operate the Book Corner, she added. An application is available online at, or stop by the store, 12470 S.W. Fifth St. in Beaverton.

The Book Corner Used Bookstore is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday evenings until 7 p.m. until Dec. 18. Folks can shop at its Amazon store anytime by visiting the Book Corner website.
