Aurora presents wine, chocolate walk
The sixth-annual Aurora Wine and Chocolate Walk will take place this Saturday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, Dec. 3. The walk gives patrons an opportunity to meander through Aurora's historic district and sample artisan wines and locally made chocolates in 12 locations.
Locally grown and made wines, including sparkling wines and barrel-select Pinot Noirs, will be paired with hand-made chocolates from small producers. A passport purchased for two allows attendees to sample in multiple locations and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere.
All proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. The event has raised more than $5,000 for Habitat for Humanity over the past few years.
Passports for two people cost $39, and include: two wine glasses, wine tasting and chocolate tasting at 12 locations, and $18 in Aurora Gift Certificates, which are good at any of the local shops. Advance tickets and more information are available at aurorawineandchocolate.com.
Participating wineries include Pheasant Run Winery, St Josef's Winery, Hanson Vineyards, Christopher Bridge Cellars, Woodenshoe Vineyards and more. Chocolatiers include Pacific Hazelnuts, White Rabbit Bakery, Quinn Candy, Lady Bug Chocolates, Pudding River, Candy Basket and more.
Portland youth perform after-Christmas concert
Portland Youth Philharmonic (PYP), which draws young musicians from all over the Portland area, will present its 56th annual Concert-at-Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
"Concert-at-Christmas has been a Portland tradition for over 50 years," said David Hattner, PYP's musical director. "It has grown into a major event for our young musicians and, of course, our alumni. Audiences get a chance to see how PYP musicians grow as they progress through the organization, and also experience alumni returning to form an orchestra with just a few days of rehearsal."
Highlights in this year's concert will include John Williams' Theme from "Jurassic Park," Enrique Granados' Intermezzo from "Goyescas," Isaac Albéniz's "Fête dieu à Seville," and Manuel De Falla's Suite No. 2 from the "Three-Cornered Hat."
Tickets start at $5 for students of any age. Adult tickets range from $10 to $60. Visit www.portlandyouthphil.org to purchase tickets and learn more.
