The event will be held in September at Langdon Farms

AURORA — The third-annual Ross Yarnell Memorial Golf Tournament has been scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 9, at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

Registration will open at noon that day, with lunch included.

The tournament will use a four-person, best-ball format and have a shotgun start beginning at 1:45 p.m.

The entry cost is $125 per person. Fees include golf, a cart and a tee prize bag.

This year’s tournament field will feature Jimmy Brown, who is the father of former Tigard High School football standouts Ryan and Jordan Brown. Last year, Jimmy Brown won the $10,000 hole-in-one challenge.

A pre-tournament lunch will be provided by Max Fine Foods. Dinner after golf will be provided by Reser’s Fine Foods. The cost for dinner only is $25. For that, you’ll need to be at the course by 6:15 p.m.

There will also be a raffle and prizes.

The event will again feature a helicopter ball drop. You may purchase at the time of registration or at the door. Purchase as many as you like and you need not be present to win. The cost for the helicopter drop contest is $10 for an individual ball, three for $25, eight for $50 and 15 for $100.

This contest will be a 50-50 split, with a maximum payout of $1,000.

Proceeds from the day’s events will benefit the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Foundation of Oregon and Washington, the Tigard and Tualatin High School football programs and the Tigard and Tualatin youth football programs.

Ross Yarnell lost his battle with ALS in 2010. He was passionate about teaching life skills through athletics and he coached in the community for several years.

It is the tournament organizers’ wish to fulfill their promise to Yarnell that they raise the needed funds for the ALS Foundation and support the Tigard/Tualatin football programs.
