Volleyball teams jump into playoff action

Sherwood to host Corvallis in a Class 5A postseason tilt Saturday

The postseason is here, and the Tigard, Tualatin and Sherwood high school volleyball teams find themselves right in the thick of things.

The Lady Bowmen will be looking to earn their third straight trip to the Class 5A state tournament when they host Corvallis in a state playoff match Saturday, starting at 1 p.m., at Sherwood High School.

Sherwood, which won the Class 5A state title in 2010 and played third at the tourney last year, enters Saturday’s playoff tilt as the Northwest Oregon Conference champion, boasting an overall record of 16-3.

Corvallis, the No. 4 team from the Mid-Willamette Conference, is 12-8 on the season.

The winner of Saturday’s Sherwood-Corvallis game will meet either St. Helens or Marshfield in a Class 5A state tournament quarterfinal game set to start at 8 a.m. on Nov. 9 at Liberty High School.

Tigard and Tualatin opened the Class 6A state playoffs with first-round matches on Wednesday. Tigard hosted Grant and Tualatin played at Barlow. Results of those matches weren’t available when the Times went to press.

Tigard, if it won Wednesday, will face either Forest Grove or Roseburg in a second-round playoff match Saturday. Tigard would be home to meet Forest Grove and the Tigers would have to travel to Roseburg.

Tualatin, if it won Wednesday, will host Thurston or play at Lake Oswegon in a second round match on Saturday.
