Lady Bowmen are edged by Putnam

SHERWOOD — The Sherwood High School boys basketball team pulled away in the second half to get an impressive victory in its Northwest Oregon Conference opener.

The Bowmen outscored Rex Putnam 31-13 in the second half on their pay to posting a 58-35 win over the Kingsmen in a NWOC opener played Tuesday at Sherwood High School.

With the win, Sherwood upped its overall record to 6-4 while Putnam fell to 0-9 on the season.

Senior post Alex Jones led the Bowmen in the victory with 14 points. Sophomore guard Jacob Spurgeon added 12 points and junior post Lucas Johnson scored eight.

The Sherwood girls were edged 58-56 by Putnam in a league opener played Tuesday at Rex Putnam High School.

The Lady Bowmen fell to 1-9 on the season while Putnam improved to 3-7.

Both Sherwood teams will be back in action on Friday. The Lady Bowmen will be home to face St. Helens while the Sherwood boys travel to St. Helens for league games set to start at 7:15 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Sherwood boys will host Parkrose and the Lady Bowmen will travel to Parkrose for 7:15 p.m. league games.
