Lady Bowmen swim to a sweep

The Sherwood boys also do well at the three-way meet


PARKROSE — The Sherwood High School girls swim team made it a clean sweep.

The Lady Bowmen came away with impressive wins over Parkrose and Madras in a three-way meet held last Thursday at the Parkrose Aquatic Center.

The Sherwood girls downed Parkrose 102-62 in a Northwest Oregon Conference dual meet, upping the Lady Bowmen’s league mark to 3-1, and they posted a 106-65 non-league victory over Madras.

Sherwood sophomore Julia Bush and senior Emily Stevens each had a pair of individual victories at the meet.

Bush won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2 minutes, 15.64 seconds, which was even better than the winning time in the boys 200 IM. Bush also sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle in 25.55.

Stevens triumphed in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.67 and she had a winning mark of 57.83 in the 100 freestyle.

Sherwood freshman Amy McAravey won the 200 freestyle with a mark of 2:23.56.

The Lady Bowmen also got a strong swim from freshman Hannah Engelman, who cut nearly a minute off her previous best time in the 500 freestyle with her mark of 7:53.0.

The Sherwood boys scored a 96-47 win over Parkrose to move to 4-0 in NWOC meets and they were edged 100-70 by Madras.

Bowmen junior Ryan Ax won the 50 freestyle in 24.26 and he also had a strong time of 53.86 in the 100 freestyle. In addition, Ax also had come-from-behind performance in swimming the anchor leg for the Bowmen 400 freestyle relay team.

Sherwood freshman Carter Howard won a closely contested 500 freestyle race in a time of 5:19.19. In that same race, Bowmen sophomore Michael Diegel cut 10 seconds off his best time with a mark of 5:42.36.

On Tuesday, the Sherwood boys scored a 124-26 win over Putnam in a league meet held Tuesday at the North Clackamas Aquatic Center. The Lady Bowmen posted a 118-44 win over Putnam.

The Sherwood teams will be back in action today (Thursday) when then face Wilsonville in a league meet set to start at 4 p.m. at the Tualatin Swim Center.
