Bowmen grapplers pin down Putnam for win


Sherwood moves to 4-1 in league meets with the victory

SHERWOOD — The Sherwood High School wrestling team continues to roll through Northwest Oregon Conference competition.

The Bowmen picked up their fourth straight league victory by powering their way to a 55-21 win over Rex Putnam in a NWOC match held last Thursday at Sherwood High School.

With the win, Sherwood improved to 4-1 in league matches, putting the Bowmen in a tie with Liberty for second place in the NWOC standings. Putman fell to 1-4 in league matches with the setback.

The Bowmen picked up victories in 10 of the 14 matches during the dual with Putnam. Four of those Sherwood wins came by fall.

Sherwood freshman Jesse Hatfield picked up the first Bowmen pin of the night as he defeated Brice McDonald in a time of 1 minute and 15 seconds in the 113-poud match.

At 120 pounds, Sherwood sophomore Fred Resch pinned Zack Iverson in 2:30.

At 152 pounds, Sherwood junior Nic Clarke defeated Nick Urben by fall in 1:28. The Bowmen’s other pin came at 132 pounds, where junior Garret Heckenberg downed Derek Bemis in 3:40.

Also for Sherwood, junior Andrew Rice scored an 8-0 major decision win over Moein Rezael at 160 pounds. Sherwood senior James Musser, at 170 pounds, posted a 15-11 decision victory against Paul McFarland.

Sherwood sophomore Tristan Bishop (106 pounds), sophomore Michael Coulter (126), senior Evan Castillo (145) and junior Corey Keohane (182) all received forfeit wins.

The Bowmen will be back in action tonight (Thursday) when they travel to St. Helens for an NWOC match set to start at 7 p.m.
