The Lady Bowmen move to 5-4 in league with the win

ST. HELENS — The Sherwood High School girls basketball team turned a big second quarter into a big road victory.

The Lady Bowmen, outscoring St. Helens 19-7 in the second quarter, jumped out to a 31-21 halftime and then rolled to a 48-39 victory over the Lions in a Northwest Oregon Conference game played Tuesday at St. Helens.

With the victory, Sherwood improved to 5-4 in NWOC play (6-12 overall), putting the Lady Bowmen in a tie with Parkrose for third place in the league standings. St. Helens dropped to 2-7 in league games and to 8-11 on the season.

Senior Kyeli Hendryx and junior Jaelyn Funk each scored five points for Sherwood in the key second quarter and junior Allison Warren added a three-pointer in the period.

Hendryx scored 15 points in the victory. Funk scored 11 points and senior Mikaela Doherty added six.

Prior to the win, Sherwood fell 62-34 to Liberty in a game played Friday at Sherwood.
