Bowmen teams earn split with Milwaukie


The Sherwood girls win big to move to 2-0 in league

MILWAUKIE — The Sherwood High School girls track and field team just keeps right on rolling.

The Lady Bowmen moved to 2-0 in Northwest Oregon Conference dual meets by posting a 95-49 victory over Milwaukie in a league meet held April 10 at Milwaukie High School.

On the track, senior Mikaya Howes was a four-time victory for the Sherwood girls.

Howes won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.40 seconds and she had a winning mark of 27.14 in the 200.

Howes also ran a leg for a pair of winning Lady Bowmen relay teams. In the 4 x 100 relay, she teamed with sophomore Mikala Otto, sophomore Emily Johansen and junior Emily Harris to pick up a win in 52.69. In the 4 x 400 relay, the Lady Bowmen team of freshman Bailey Holloway, junior Corrie Green-Lahart, Harris and Howes was victorious in 4:26.83.

Also on the track for Sherwood, sophomore Madison Budge won the 1,500 in 5:23.24, sophomore Bridget Palmer triumphed in the 3,000 in 12:32.76, sophomore Rebekah Quaglio picked up a win in the 100 high hurdles with her time of 17.64 and freshman Morgan McMasters won the 300 low hurdles in 54.04.

In the field events, Lady Bowmen junior Elyse Cuthbertson picked up a pair of victories in the throwing events.

Cuthbertson won the shot put with a mark of 33-0 and she had a winning toss of 115-2 in the javelin. Sherwood senior Emily Hamilton won the discus with a mark of 111-9 and senior Emily Sackinger cleared 10-0 to take first place in the pole vault.

The Sherwood boys moved to 1-1 in league meets with a 79-66 loss to the Mustangs.

Senior Cody Thompson and junior Hunter Pfefferkorn each ran to a pair of individual wins for the Bowmen.

Pfefferkorn won the 200 in 23.29 and he had a winning mark of 53.21 in the 400. Pfefferkorn also teamed with Brandon Thompson, Conner Duppenthaler and Vernon Johnson to win the 4 x 400 relay in 3:54.37.

Cody Thompson triumphed in the 800 in 4:22.26 and he won the 1,500 in 4:22.26.

Also for the Sherwood boys, senior Chris Roth won the 3,000 in 10:04.10, senior Jacob Brooks had a winning throw of 142-6 and senior Zach Milligan cleared 6-5 to take first place in the high jump.

The Sherwood teams were slated to host Rex Putnam in a league dual meet on Wednesday. Results from that meet weren’t available when the Times went to press.

The Bowmen squads will be back in action Friday and Saturday when they compete at the Oregon Relays, which will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene.
