Both Horizon squads take first in the event at Colton

COLTON — The Horizon Christian High School track and field teams flew to victory at the four-team West Valley League meet held April 17 at Colton High School.

The Horizon Christian boys took first place with a score of 123.5 points, putting the Hawks well ahead of second-place Gervais, which had a score of 72.

Senior Tyler Forrester was a four-time winner for Horizon Christian at the meet.

Forrester sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.66 seconds and he had a winning time of 23.84 in the 200. Forrester also ran a leg for a pair of winning Horizon Christian relay teams.

In the 4 x 100 relay, Forrester teamed with freshman Matthew Leong, junior Gabe Nielsen and junior Mitchell Iliyn to win in 45.18. In the 4 x 400 relay, the team of sophomore Michael Weber, senior Michael Loomis, sophomore Sam Davies and Forrester triumphed in 3:49.69.

Horizon Christian senior Calvin Anderson jumped to a pair of victories at the meet. Anderson cleared 5 feet, 8 inches to take first place in the high jump and he had a winning distance of 19-7 in the long jump.

Also for the Horizon Christian boys, junior Blake Phillips had a winning time of 17.68 in the 110 high hurdles and he also won the triple jump with a mark of 36-6. Senior Grant Phillips had a winning throw of 129-7 in the discus.

The Horizon Christian girls, with 84 points, edged Oregon Episcopal School by one point to take first place in the team standings at the meet.

Sophomore Hannah Cesario ran to a pair of victories to help lead the way for the Hawks. She won the 400 in 1:06.65 and she ran to victory in the 3,000 in 12:01.60.

In the 4 x 100 relay, the Horizon Christian team of senior Sasha Iliyn, senior Mary Auxier, sophomore Grace Phillips and senior Kate Schifferdecker triumphed in a time of 56.21.

Phillips also had a winning mark of 29-10 in the triple jump. Horizon Christian freshman Abriana Wedin won the discus with a throw of 87-7.

The Horizon Christian teams will be back in action Saturday when they compete at the Aloha Relays, which will be held at Aloha High School.
