Tualatin girls shine under sunny skies


The Wolves and Hayley Mortensen win at golf tourney

HILLSBORO — The Tualatin High School girls golf team enjoyed another day on the course.

The Timberwolves not only got to play under sunny conditions on Tuesday, but they also picked up another win in Pacific Conference play.

Tualatin took the top post in the league tournament played at Meriwether National Golf Club with a team score of 387 strokes, keeping the Wolves unbeaten in league competition this season. McMinnville placed second at Tuesday’s tourney with a total of 421.

Junior Hayley Mortensen led the way for Tualatin at Tuesday’s tourney. She claimed medalist honors with an even-par round of 73.

Cheri Luikart and Janelle Decker, who was playing at the varsity level for the first time, each shot a 102 for the Wolves. Rachel Piazza, who also was making her varsity debut, shot a 110 and Mandy Pozo had a 111.

Junior Sooji Kim led the way for Tigard at the tournament with a score of 114. Molly Davis carded a 129 for the Tigers and Megan Liles shot a 135.

The next Pacific Conference tournament will be played Tuesday at Quail Valley.
