The Tigers best Forest Grove for fifth straight win

FOREST GROVE — Talk about a turnaround.

It was just a little less than two weeks ago that the Tigard High School baseball team ended a four-game Pacific Conference losing skid.

Since then, the Tigers haven’t lost.

Tigard notched its fifth straight league victory on Tuesday when it scored a 6-2 win over Forest Grove in a Pacific Conference game played at Forest Grove High School.

“We’re playing pretty well now,” Tigard coach Tom Campbell said.

With Tuesday’s win, Tigard improved to 7-6 in league play, putting the Tigers in a tie with Hillsboro for third place in the league standings, while moving to 13-9 on the season.

The Tigers, in Tuesday’s contest, were clinging to a 3-2 lead going into the top of the seventh inning. But senior Conner Bryant gave Tigard some breathing room with a three-run double. Bryant finished the game with two doubles and three RBIs.

Junior Shane Rasor went 2 for 3 at the plate in the win and junior Jake Biglow went 2 for 4.

Junior Ray Barlow pitched the first five and two-thirds innings to get the win. Senior George Still finished the game on the mound for the Tigers.

Prior to the win at Forest Grove, Tigard completed a three-game sweep of Newberg by getting a 12-6 victory in a league game played Friday at Newberg High School.

Bryant, Biglow, Rasor and junior Nick Duron each had a pair of hits in that victory. Rasor and Duron drove in two runs apiece.

Still picked up the pitching victory in relief.

On April 24, Tigard scored a 4-1 win over Newberg in a game played at Tigard High.

Senior Robby Chabreck picked up a complete-game pitching win, striking out six and walking none. Chabreck also drove in a run in the victory, as did both Biglow and junior Bruin Campbell.

The Tigers were slated to host Forest Grove in the second game of the teams’ series on Wednesday. Results of that game weren’t available when The Times went to press.
