DAYTON — The Horizon Christian High School track and field teams turned in strong performances at the West Valley League District Championships, held last Thursday and Friday at Dayton High School.

The Horizon Christian boys took second place in the team standings at the event with 114.5 points. Westside Christian took the top spot with a score of 193.

Senior Calvin Anderson led the way for the Hawks at the district meet as he won two events and placed second in a third event, earning state meet bids in all three events.

The top two finishers in every event at the district meet, as well as those individuals or relay teams that meet state qualifying standards, advance to compete at the Class 3A state meet, which will be held today (Thursday) and Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Anderson will be going to the meet as a two-time district champ. At the WVL meet, he took first place in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 9 inches. Anderson also triumphed in the triple jump with a distance of 41-0.5.

Anderson also cleared 5-8 to take second place in the high jump event.

Also for the Horizon Christian boys, senior Grant Phillips took second place in the discus with a toss of 135-3 to earn a state bid in that event.

Horizon Christian senior Tyler Forrester sprinted to second place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.63 seconds to earn a trip to state in that event.

For the Horizon Christian girls, sophomore Hannah Cesario earned a pair of bids to the Class 3A state meet.

Cesario won the WVL district title in the 1,500 with her time of 5:24.15 seconds. She also finished in second place in the 3,000 with a time of 11:45.15.

Cesario also teamed with senior Kate Schifferdecker, senior Mary Auxier and sophomore Lael Bridge to place third in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 4:35.68.
