The Tigers have strong marks at Nike Pre Nationals

PORTLAND — The Tigard High School cross country teams has some strong runs against some very strong competition when they ran at the Nike Pre Nationals meet, held Saturday at Portland Meadows.

The Tigard girls finished in 17th place in the Division I varsity race with 395 points.

Sophomore Veronique Calmels led the way for the Tigard girls in that event. She finished in 38th place with a time of 21 minutes, 15.14 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

Also for the Tigard girls, junior Elizabeth Dean was 73rd at 21:56.85 and junior Hannaly Duff-McGaughey was 78th at 22:00.30.

The Tigard boys also finished in 17th place in the team standings, with a score of 382.

Senior Martin Ramos III led the way for the Tigers, placing 46th in a time of 18:11.05.

Also for the Tigard boys, junior john Caufield was 49th at 18:12.71, freshman Nicholas Speth was 55th at 18:19.62 and senior Devin Roche was 91st at 18:45.90.

Central Kitsap won the boys team title with a score of 134 and Poly High School, from Long Beach, Calif., won the girls team championship with a score of 101.

The Tigard teams were scheduled to compete at the Star City XClassic, which was held Wednesday at West Salem High School. Results of that meet weren’t available when The Times went to press.

The Tigers will next be in action Wednesday when they host McMinnville and Century in a Pacific Conference double dual meet.
