Horizon moves to 4-1 in WVL play with its 56-28 victory

TUALATIN — The Horizon Christian High School football team got off to a blazing fast start and ended up soaring to its third straight victory.

The Hawks sprinted to a 38-0 halftime lead on their way to posting a 56-28 win over Gervais in a West Valley League game played Friday at Horizon Christian High School.

With the victory, the Hawks improved to 4-1 in West Valley League play (4-4 overall), keeping them in second place in the league standings.

Horizon Christian wasted little time taking charge in Friday’s game.

Senior Daniel Parsons scored on a 57-yard run to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead less than a minute into the contest. Horizon Christian senior Parker Belan then had a 4-yard interception return for a score and senior Isaiah Hall added the two-point conversion to up the margin to 14-0 with 7:44 left in the first quarter.

Another Parsons TD run, this one covering 31 yards, pushed the Horizon lead to 22-0 with 5:05 left in the opening period.

In the second quarter, the Hawks got a 69-yard TD run by junior Michael Weber and Parsons scored from 37 yards out on a run to help Horizon take a 38-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Hawks got a 74-yard touchdown run by junior Colton Cosner, a 43-yard TD run by junior Dan Hernandez and a 48-yard scoring scamper by Parsons.

Horizon Christian, as a team, rushed for 459 yards on 30 carries in the victory. Parsons led the rushing attack with 182 yards on six carries. Cosner added 88 yards on eight carries, Weber had 80 yards on eight carries and Hernandez had 74 yards on four carries.

Horizon sophomore quarterback Sandis Chhay completed two of four pass attempts for nine yards. Hall had both receptions.

Senior linebacker Brian Satterwhite led the defense with 18 total tackles. Weber had two interceptions and Hernandez recovered a Gervais fumble.
