Bowmen boys run to fourth at invitational
McMINNVILLE — The Sherwood High School boys cross country team turned in a strong performance, running to fourth place in the team standings at the Fast & Flat Invitational, held Friday at Joe Dancer Park in McMinnville.
The Bowmen had a team score of 141 points at the 15-school event.
Junior Henry Giles led the way for the Sherwood boys at the meet. He ran to fourth place in a time of 16 minutes, 12.47 seconds for the 5,000-meter course.
Sherwood senior Josh Quaglio and sophomore Jaron Homer also had top-10 finishes. Quaglio placed fifth with a mark of 16:17.36. Homer was eighth at 16:34.29.
Also for the Bowmen, senior Brandon Hughes was 52nd at 17:39.10, senior Andrew Mabry was 83rd at 18:15.14, freshman Daniel Gomez was 91st at 18:20.89 and sophomore Thomas Osborne was 97th at 18:27.04.
Jesuit took first place in the boys team standings with a score of 58. Aloha junior Mohamed Sheikh won the boys race in a time of 15:48.22.
The Sherwood girls finished in 10th place in the team standings with a score of 274.
Freshman Kari Eddington led the way for the Lady Bowmen at the meet. She finished in 27th place in a time of 20:30.01.
Also for the Sherwood girls, Joley Sproul was 40th at 21:07.81, sophomore Madi Ramos was 66th at 22:05.53, junior Emily Pannell was 67th at 22:06.33, sophomore Vanessa VanWinkle was 95th at 23:18.58, junior Emily Boynton was 96th at 23:26.75 and junior Jacqueline Angelel was 97th at 23:27.07.
Skyview, Wash., took first place in the girls team standings with a score of 36. Catlin Gabel senior Maya Rayle won the girls race in a time of 18:00.88.
The Bowmen teams were scheduled to face Tigard and St. Mary's Academy (girls only) in a Three Rivers League double dual meet on Wednesday. Results of that meet weren't available when the Times went to press.
