Woodburn man arrested for robbery, assault of 2-year-old
Woodburn Police arrested Jose Andres Garcia Sanchez, 26, of Woodburn on Tuesday after he ripped a gold necklace off a toddler's neck. The victim's mother called police from a strip mall at 1585 N. Pacific Highway in Woodburn and reported that a man had approached her child and ripped off a gold necklace. She stated that her son was standing outside of a business, wearing a valuable gold necklace, when he began to cry and was rubbing his neck. The mother noticed the necklace was gone and her son had an abrasion on his neck. A witness saw a Hispanic adult male running from the scene and was able to provide a description to police. Officers contacted neighboring businesses and located other witnesses who said they saw a person running away from the scene at the same time of the robbery and was a person they knew as a past customer. The business was able to provide information identifying the suspect as Garcia Sanchez. Police located the suspect at his residence, 1215 Del Sol Court in Woodburn.
The suspect later confessed to stealing the necklace and turned it over to police, who in turn returned it to the family.
Garcia Sanchez was charged with robbery III and assault III and transported to Marion County Jail.
