AWARE Food Bank has been in operation since the early 1970s. Its 28 active volunteers share their time mornings Monday through Friday. Each volunteer will commit to an average of 42 hours on a monthly basis and are committed to serving the Woodburn community. Glenda Flack is one of the committed volunteers who assist twice a week. She has been volunteering at AWARE for four years.
Glenda helps at the registration counter and is the first to greet the smiling children. She gives them a cookie while they and their parents wait for their food box. She has seen some kids grow up and some have returned as middle school and high school to volunteer on their days off. She has seen recently that more families are returning sooner closer to the end of the month, due to the reduction of SNAP (food stamps).
If money was no object, she would provide a service to assist with portion-size meals since she believes that can help local seniors stay healthy, become active and give back.
